ONTOFORCE has won the EIT Venture Award 2017 for its semantic search platform DISQOVER. This award – one of three awarded by the European Institute of Innovation & Technology – recognises Europe’s most promising ventures. The jury acknowledged ONTOFORCE’s passion and societal impact in democratizing Big Data in Life Sciences, and beyond.
The EIT Venture Award puts successful entrepreneurial start-ups in the spotlight that have been supported by the Innovation Communities. As the jury report stated: “ONTOFORCE has developed a company and products that answer a clear market need, especially in Life Sciences, with the opportunity to scale quickly to other industries. Its timing is good, as demonstrated by strong Venture Capital backing and commercial sales already achieved in a short amount of time, and with a product that is user-friendly in the complex field of big data.”
ONTOFORCE’s semantic search platform DISQOVER aggregates data from an unlimited number of public, third-party and private sources. Its user-friendly interface makes it possible for anyone to find life-changing data faster and easier. In Life Sciences, DISQOVER helps to speed up research and bring drugs to market faster. The company is now actively pursuing other verticals as well, quickly broadening its reach and footprint.
“We are fast becoming a world-class player in semantic search, and the EIT Community – especially EIT Health – has contributed in many ways to this success,” said Hans Constandt, co-founder and CEO of ONTOFORCE. “Many of EIT’s experts advised us and helped us to pivot, optimise our pitch, meet customers and partners, develop go-to-market strategies and much more. But, above all, we couldn’t have won this award or achieved what we did thus far, without the help of an extremely intelligent and motivated team which truly believes that we can heal patients by democratising Big Data.”
“The EIT Awards is an opportunity to promote European entrepreneurs who bring solutions to today’s major challenges. This year’s winners and all the nominees are true agents of change. Their vision, courage and inventiveness serve as a striking calling card for Europe and are an inspiration to entrepreneurs and students everywhere,” said Martin Kern, EIT Interim Director.
The EIT Award winners were chosen by an international jury from among 20 nominations. Each finalist was selected for driving European innovation through ground-breaking products, services and processes. ONTOFORCE was the only Belgian company participating in the EIT Awards. There were 10 nominees in total in its category. Besides the EIT Venture Award, the EIT Change Award (celebrating graduates and educational programs) and the EIT Innovators Award (recognizing innovation teams) were also handed out.
In 2016, ONTOFORCE also won the EIT Health award. This EIT Venture Award is a nice culmination of the company’s ongoing efforts in further democratizing Big Data in Life Sciences.
