New projects approved for funding: Sleep apnea and admin relief

Two new projects have been approved by Biovia (formerly flanders.bio/MEDVIA) and VLAIO to receive funding: IMSAD and CareAIgent. Both of these innovative projects bring a fresh and forward-thinking approach to healthcare challenges, demonstrating the strength of collaborative innovation within our ecosystem.
Over the years we’ve helped 27 projects involving more than 70 companies, hospitals and research institutes gain VLAIO funding worth a total of over €16 million. Biovia actively supports applicants through every step of the process, from ideation and consortium building to application guidance and final submission.
We’ve recently opened our latest project Call 2025.2 and have an information webinar scheduled for 26 August. So if you have an innovative idea of your own, now is the time to get moving!

Two new projects approved
IMSAD
Consortium: LTSM Systems / UZA / Voxdale
Grant: €173,155
The IMSAD project focuses on developing and clinically validating a next-generation sleep apnea monitor that enables accurate level three sleep studies to be performed at home. Led by LTSM Systems in collaboration with Voxdale and the University Hospital of Antwerp (UZA), the project aims to eliminate common issues like sensor misplacement and cable disconnection while capturing key medical data such as airflow, SpO₂, respiratory effort and heart rate. By combining expertise in medtech design, flexible electronics and clinical sleep diagnostics, IMSAD supports more accessible, patient-friendly sleep monitoring and contributes to innovation in home-based medical diagnostics.
CareAIgent
Recipient: Hogeschool PXL
Grant: €431,517
The CareAIgent project aims to relieve caregivers of time-consuming administrative tasks by helping to implement AI technologies – such as Large Language Models (LLMs) – in the healthcare sector. The project provides practical solutions, such as an implementation framework specifically tailored to the needs of the care sector, to lower both technical and organizational barriers. For tech companies, the project offers a unique opportunity to validate and adapt existing AI solutions. CareAIgent disseminates specialized market knowledge for AI products, increases their visibility in healthcare and offers both the healthcare and IT sectors opportunities for knowledge exchange and co-creation.
